Learn to Homebrew, 2017

On November 4, the Fredericksburg Brewing insiders is hosting an American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Learn to Homebrew Day event. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be begin at 10:00 AM.

Organized by the AHA, Learn to Homebrew Day is an opportunity for homebrewers to draft their non-brewer friends and families to learn how to make beer their own beer. Hundreds of fun, educational events are held at homes, breweries, shops and clubs worldwide.

The FBI invites anyone interested in homebrewing to stop by from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2017 to join the fun! We will have Hotdogs and Homebrew samples to share with the public.  Watch our club members as they demonstrate how to brew your own beer at home. The event is conveniently located next to a local Homebrew Supply store, The Brewshop, which has everything that you need to get started.  Also, the event is right next to a local craft Brewery, Maltese Brewing Company, who also started as homebrewers just a few years ago.

“AHA Learn to Homebrew Day brings together thousands of people from all over the world, and we encourage anyone who enjoys beer—from brewing beginners and hobbyists, to professionals, to those who might be curious about homebrewing and interested in trying something new—to get involved,” said Gary Glass, director, American Homebrewers Association. “It’s exciting to see the continued growth in popularity of the hobby, which, for beginners, is really easy to get started.”

The AHA offers a variety of resources to help people of all skill levels appreciate craft beer and hone their brewing skills. Among them is Brew Guru™, a free mobile app which delivers money-saving deals at breweries, brewpubs, taprooms and homebrew supply stores throughout the U.S., and showcases the finest homebrew recipes on the planet. Membership is not required to use the app.

The 3nd Annual Battle of Fredericksburg

Saturday, 7 October, 2017

The Fredericksburg Brewing Insiders (FBI) will be hosting our 3nd Annual "Battle of Fredericksburg" homebrew competition on Saturday, 7 October, 2017 at 6 Bears & a Goat Brewing Company (https://www.6bgbrewingco.com/).  6 Bears & a Goat is located in Fredericksburg, VA, just a few minutes off of Interstate 95 Exit 133. This AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition will use the 2015 BJCP beer styles.  Judging will begin at 9:00am and will consist of morning and afternoon flights. Once all entries have been judged, the 1st place beer in each category will judged at the Best of Show to select he best beer in the competition.  Following the BOS round, there will be an awards ceremony to present medals and prizes to all of the winners. 

Entries may be registered from Friday, 1 September 2017 through Friday, 22 September 2017, by logging into the Competition website at http://battleoffredericksburg.com/.  Each beer entered costs $7, but if you volunteer to judge or steward, your entries will be discounted to $5 each. The discount code will be emailed to participants who sign up to volunteer.  Full deatils available at the competititon website.

Registration for judges and stewards is available now at the competition website and will close on Friday, 29 September, 2017.  Coffee, juice and a light continental breakfast will be provided before the event, and a hearty lunc h will be provided for all judges and stewards.
  
We welcome judges and stewards of all levels and will pair newer judges with experienced judges.  This will increase the knowledge and experience of new judges.  Our priority is to provide quality score sheets to competition entrants, so we welcome anyone who shares our committment to quality beer evaluation to judge at this event!

2016 Battle of Fredericksburg - Results posted

The 2nd Annual "Battle of Fredericksburg" Homebrew competition was held on Saturday, the 2nd of April, 2016.  Over 260 homebrewed beers were judged over four judging sessions, culminating in the Best of show at Spencer Devon Brewing company in Fredericvksburg, VA.  Results for the competition are posted at 2016 Winners.

We also held a fantastic raffle featuring tons of great homebrew gear and schwag.  We received a generous response from our 97 sponsors who donated lots of great prizes.  Please browse the list of sponsors and show them how much you appreciate them by purchasing something.

The 2nd Annual Battle of Fredericksburg

This AHA registered competition is open to all 2008 BJCP beer styles.  Judging will begin at 9:00am and will consist of morning and afternoon flights.  Following the afternoon flight (during the BOS judging) the FBI will hold the Battle of Fredericksburg raffle with some fantastic prizes.  At 5:00pm, the awards ceremony will be held to present medals and prizes to all of the winners. 

Entries may be registered from Wednesday, February 17 through Friday, March 18 by logging into the Competition website http://fredhomebrew.org/BOF2016/.  Entries are $7 each, but if you volunteer to judge or steward, your entries will be discounted to $5 each.  Contact the club president for the steward/judge discount code, This email address is being protected from spambots. Learn to Homebrew Day 2015

 

Please join the members of the Fredericksburg Brewing Insider (FBI) Homebrew Club for the 17th annual American Homebrewers Association "Learn to Homebrew Day!" This is a FREE family event with hots dogs, chips, chili, homebrew samples and demonstrations on the art of homebrewing. Our goal is to show friends the art of brewing your own beer at home and to help spread the joy of homebrewing.
